FURNITURE  RESTORATIONS

        antiques & collectables
One of the pillars of our business operation has been customer furniture restoration.
The emphasis of which is the preservation or conservation of early finishes and the maintenance of patination and colour.

When it comes to cabinet repairs, we do what is necessary to make sure that the furniture is completely sound and as functional as the day they were initially constructed.   Damaged chairs knocked apart - redowelled and regluedWorn drawer runners and slides repaired, all to ensure they are sturdy again and slide well.

Missing chair spindles,  lost finials or damaged carvings will be re-carved, turned or re-worked to exact match.  We re-use furniture parts that we salvaged for restoring same design furniture.

Our attention to detail requires that we retain original fittings and hardware where possible.  Over the years we have managed to acquire numerous old handles, knobs, locks etc. which we use for restoration purposes.

Where stripping of an old finish is required, various approaches can be adopted - each one of which is chosen to suit the individual piece.  This ensures the maintenance of patination; leaving carvings and mouldings with crisp edges.

When refinishing or applying polishes, we primarily go back to traditional shellac and waxing for much older furniture.  However, on later furniture (normally later in the 20th century) that would be subject to constant daily use, for example table tops, bedroom furniture surfaces, we recommend a more durable modern finish if required.

Our restoration services also include traditional upholstery, mirror re-silvering arranged, veneer work and more..

ANY ENQUIRIES REGARDING OUR FURNITURE RESTORATION, QUOTES OR STOCK ITEMS FOR SALE, PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO CONTACT US.

Given the limited history, in particular of Australian furniture and how much have been lost, it is worthwhile to cherish what is left. Well constructed old furniture was made with the indigenous / locally available timber of its time. These timbers are now considered exotic and some are protected species. Restoring and preserving them means giving life back to them for future generations to enjoy.
